Grandmaster Veronica Walker (Professor V)
Professor Veronica Walker is one of the original Sanuces School disciples, having studied only under Dr. Moses Powell. She is the United States’ highest ranking female Jiu Jitsu fighter, establishing herself as one of the nation’s experts in the field. Nicknamed Professor ‘V,’ she apprenticed under Dr. Powell from 1969 to 1981, having been the only female in the New York Sanuces school. Recognizing the fact that women must empower themselves, Professor V devoted herself to mastering the various forms of martial arts, going on to create a new form called Shoto, which focuses on hand to hand combat. She is proficient in 5 weapons- sai, sword, bo, kama and arnis sticks. At 65 years old, Professor V puts to shame many of her students barely a quarter of her age who are unable to achieve her physical and mental strength, agility, speed and power. With a traditional mentality, she instills tremendous efforts, respect and discipline in her students, encouraging them to be fearless but tactically intelligent in combat. To witness the expertise of Professor V, one would never guess her true age, proving that a Sanuces master only intensifies in fierceness and grace with time.

Dr. Moses Powell
Dr. Powell was born in 1941 in Norfolk, Virginia. He went on to study martial arts for five decades, traveling to many parts of the world both as disciple and teacher. Powell’s main instructor was the revered Florendo Visitacion, founder of Vee Jitsu Ryu. Mastering the arts of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, karate, boxing and arnis, Powell sought to create an evolved form of martial arts that best served the purposes of street fighting. Founding the form of Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu, Dr. Powell combined physical combat with spirituality, adopting the motto of “Survival through Simplicity.” Powell was proficient in many weapons including nunchakus, arnis sticks, katana and sai. Along with martial arts star Chuck Norris, Dr. Powell starred in the film “The Warrior Within: A Tribute to Bruce Lee.” Dr. Powell’s expertise was also sought by such world agencies as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and FBI, to train elite teams in martial arts combat. With his passing in 2005, Powell leaves behind a powerful legacy carried on by many.

Professor Florendo Visitacion
Founder of Vee Jitsu Ryu, Florendo Visitacion was born in 1910 in the Philippines, where he began his martial arts studies at the age of 10. For eight decades, Visitacion, known as Professor Vee, dedicated his time and efforts to carefully studying numerous forms of martial arts, including judo, Mongolian wrestling, jiu jitsu, Indian Varmannie and arnis. Moving from the Philippines to Hawaii, California and finally New York, Professor Vee established lifelong friendships with other martial arts experts who became both master and colleague to him. In the 1950’s Visitacion began his teaching career in New York, passing down his years of in-depth studies to students, several of whom went on to found new styles of martial arts. Visitacion proved that to be a champion in combat, physical size was not a determining factor; rather tactics and useful application of techniques were key. An avid reader, Visitacion spent much time pouring through hundreds of books, exploring and researching the theoretical techniques of various martial arts forms, including Southern Preying Mantis, Tai Chi Chuan and karate. Professor Vee passed away at the age of 89 in 1999, still studying and teaching.
